Building resilient broadcasting and communications infrastructure, eliminating the digital divide
Through broadcasting and communication services, we provide stable lifestyle infrastructure that can be used even in times of disaster, even in areas where terrestrial lines are not available, thereby contributing to the creation of a resilient society.
- Provision of broadcasting and communications infrastructure to all areas and environments
- Supporting BCP and relief recovery through the provision of disaster-resilient broadcasting and communications infrastructure

Provision of broadcasting and communications infrastructure to all areas and environments
Our satellite communication services eliminate the digital divide by
providing communication lines to areas where terrestrial lines are not yet available,
such as maritime, air, and island areas.
We will continue to expand the service area
for retransmission services via optical fiber, including collaboration with various
cable TV operators, and provide stable lifestyle infrastructure (broadcasting and
communications).
- Long-term targets
(Vision for 2030) - By providing highly reliable connectivity to everything and everywhere on earth at all times, we bridge the digital divide and improve the communications environment, especially in disadvantaged and developing areas, enabling people to access information more freely.
- KPI
- Bandwidth used by the satellites we own (including non-geostationary satellites and HAPS)
- Short-term targets
-
- Expand the bandwidth used by our geostationary satellite fleet starting from the end of the previous fiscal year
- Expand our satellite communications services to include satellites other than those in our fleet
- Increase the cumulative number of subscriptions to re-transmission services via optical fiber, which is an important source of information during a disaster, to 2.82 million by the end of FY2024
- KPI
-
- Bandwidth of our satellite fleet
- Number of satellite service (for maritime) contracts with business partners
- Cumulative number of contracts for re-transmission services
Supporting BCP and relief recovery through the provision of disaster-resilient broadcasting and communications infrastructure
The Group’s broadcasting and communication infrastructure utilizes disaster-resistant characteristics and is used for BCP by infrastructure companies, as well as for relief, medical care, and recovery support in the event of a disaster.
- Long-term targets
(Vision for 2030) - Contribute to enhance disaster resilience by providing a robust communications network to protect life, the economy, and livelihoods from various disasters
- KPI
- Bandwidth used by the satellites we own (including non-geostationary satellites and HAPS)
- Short-term targets
-
- Expand the bandwidth used by our geostationary satellite fleet starting from the end of the previous fiscal year
- Develope and expand effective services for disaster countermeasures, including those other than satellites owned by the Group
- Expand disaster resilience partnerships with disaster prevention support organizations, companies, etc.
- Improve the conditions under which broadcasting and distribution services can be provided safely and consistently
- KPI
-
- Bandwidth of our satellite fleet
- Making large-scale renovations 15 years after building completion
- Implementing a disaster preparedness plan for a Japan Trench and Kuril Islands Trench Earthquake
Initiatives to enhance reliability and sustainability of satellite communication services through technological innovation
We will continue to engage in efficient and effective capital investment
aimed at improving the sophistication and reliability of satellite communication
technology, satellite control technology, and equipment.
Going forward, we will
further increase the value we provide through services that utilize new technologies
such as software-defined satellite and optical relay satellite.
- Long-term targets
(Vision for 2030) - In addition to developing and adopting new technologies to facilitate consistent service, we work actively in partnership with other entities to achieve redundancy in our satellite and control facilities to provide more advanced services and to improve reliability
- KPI
- Serious service interruptions(*)
- Short-term targets
- No serious service interruptions* every year to zero each year *serious service interruption: in accordance with Article 58 of the Telecommunications Business Act
