SKY PerfecTV! 80th Anniversary of the End of the War Peace Education Workshop

In an effort to pass on the memory of war and provide an opportunity for students to think about peace during the 80th anniversary of the end of the war, SKY Perfect JSAT Corporation (referred to as "the Company") held the SKY PerfecTV! 80th Anniversary of the End of the War Peace Education Workshop on Wednesday, July 30th.

This event was a collaboration with Shibaura Institute of Technology Kashiwa Junior and Senior High School and was held with the cooperation of A&E Networks Japan G.K., the broadcaster of the History Channel. A total of 24 high school sophomores and 4 teachers participated.

Prior to the workshop, the students watched the original History Channel documentary, "The War of Anonymous People." They were then split into groups of four and given 30 minutes to choose a theme and discuss a message for future generations and their own selves 20 years from now. They worked together to write down their thoughts on large sheets of paper. The students exchanged frank opinions about war and peace, sharing what they had learned and what they had realized when they compared these topics to their own lives.

Presentations by each group

Each group gave a presentation based on their chosen theme. The session was filled with learning and new insights for all the high school students, leading to a meaningful discussion among all participants.

After the presentations, the groups went back to work. They discussed the ideas and feedback from the other groups, used that new insight to further their discussions, and finalized their large posters.

These posters were then placed in a time capsule, which will be stored at the school and opened in 2045, the 100th anniversary of the end of the war.

A Talk by the Program Producer

At the end of the workshop, Mr. Fukui and Ms. Ono from A+E Networks Japan, the company that produced the program, gave a talk.

Mr. Fukui said, "Your discussion was fantastic, and I learned a great deal myself. It's difficult to stop a war once it's started, so I believe it's important to prevent one from ever developing in the first place."

Ms. Ono told the students, "Even with a lot of protests, the Iraq War couldn't be stopped. It's possible we could get caught up in the next war, so it's vital for each and every one of us to think carefully about these issues." Through their talk, they shared their thoughts and feelings with the students.

As part of our sustainability management, our group has established nine key challenges. One of these challenges is "Development of Regions and Communities," which focuses on supporting the next generation and their communities. We believe that educational support for the next generation is crucial. We will continue to contribute to the sustainable development of society through these types of educational support initiatives.
