Under the Group mission “Space for your Smile,” the Southeast Asia Education Support Project is advancing a variety of initiatives to bring smiles to children in Southeast Asia and Japan. We aim to achieve sustainability in which community contribution, one of our Materialities, the SDGs, and the enhancement of corporate value create a positive cycle.

At SKY Perfect JSAT School, we held an event to “Hear from Graduates” — helping children feel that learning leads to their future

In February 2026, we visited the Terakoya learning center “SKY Perfect JSAT School” in Siem Reap Province, Cambodia, and held an event called “Hear from Graduates,” inviting graduates and representatives from vocational training schools. The Terakoya is now also referred to as a “Lifelong Learning Center (LLC)” and aims to contribute not only to education but also to the development of the entire community, including support for households facing financial difficulties.
We decided to hold this event because we believed that providing children with an opportunity to learn about careers, occupations, and their future would also contribute to the local community.

At the event, speakers shared real experiences about their setbacks, efforts, and the paths they took to reach their current professions, giving students a concrete opportunity to imagine what kind of future they could build through studying at the Terakoya.
The question-and-answer session, originally scheduled for 30 minutes, lasted about an hour, with many enthusiastic questions about future careers, income, and skills, demonstrating the high level of interest among both students and parents.

Later, questionnaire results for the children sent by the National Federation of UNESCO Associations in Japan included positive comments such as,

“I felt encouraged because the speakers had once been in the same position as us,” and “By participating in the talk event, I seriously thought about my future for the first time.”

In addition, in response to the question in the parent survey, “Have you usually had opportunities to think about your child’s future?” over half answered, “Neither agree nor disagree” or “Do not really think so.”
However, to the question, “Did today’s event make you want to talk with your child about the future?” all respondents answered, “Very much so” or “I think so.”

Based on these results, we believe the event helped not only the children but also their parents envision the future.

The reality of education and poverty revealed through home visits

While in Cambodia, we also visited students’ homes and spoke directly with the students and their parents about their living environments and household finances. Although the children and their parents showed very strong motivation toward education, some parents tearfully told us that many children are forced to give up further schooling due to financial constraints. We were reminded once again that alongside educational support, “improving the economic strength of households and communities” is an important Issue.

Donation of sports equipment and school supplies collected internally

During this visit, we brought donated items contributed by employees to the site. In particular, we conducted an internal collection drive for sports equipment and school supplies needed at SKY Perfect JSAT School, and many donated items were gathered from our various locations. On this visit, we presented three cardboard boxes of donations, which are now being used by the students at SKY Perfect JSAT School.

Southeast Asia Education Support Project

Our group has identified “Development of Local Areas and Communities” as one of its Materiality Themes, and we are working to support education for the next generation by utilizing our assets and to contribute to the development of local areas and communities.

As part of this project, since August 2021 we have supported the “World Terakoya Movement” of the National Federation of UNESCO Associations in Japan and opened SKY Perfect JSAT School in Siem Reap Province, Cambodia, for children who have difficulty attending school due to family circumstances and other reasons.

At SKY Perfect JSAT School, classes are offered for elementary and junior high school students who have dropped out and aim to return to school, as well as literacy classes for adults. In addition, livelihood improvement support is also provided. Between FY2020 and FY2025, approximately 2,500 learners and local residents have participated.
