Science Koshien is a nationwide championship organized by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST). Teams of high school students who love science take on challenges in multiple disciplines, including science, mathematics, and information science, competing in scientific ability while inspiring one another to improve. The championship aims to “broaden the base of students interested in science while fostering top-tier talent.”

SKY Perfect JSAT Corporation (hereinafter, “the Company”) believes that providing younger generations with opportunities to experience the joy and fascination of science and nurture their spirit of inquiry is an important initiative that also contributes to the advancement of science and technology in Japan. Since the seventh championship in 2018, the Company has sponsored both Science Koshien for high school students and Science Koshien Junior for junior high school students as a Collaborative Partner Company.

Japan’s Premier Science and Mathematics Competition Heats Up!

The 15th Science Koshien National Tournament was held from March 20 to 23, 2026.

Forty-seven representative schools that had won their respective prefectural qualifiers formed teams of six to eight students and competed in a written competition and three practical competition to demonstrate their overall scientific abilities. Okayama Prefectural Okayama Asahi High School, representing Okayama Prefecture, emerged as the overall champion, taking the top spot in a competition that drew a total of 7,892 entrants nationwide, including entrants in the prefectural qualifiers.

The contests were held over two days. On the first day, the written competition featured questions in science, mathematics, and information science. Each six-member team pooled its knowledge to solve the problems.

The second day featured the practical competitions. Cheered on by many parents as well as upperclassmen and underclassmen from the participating schools, the contestants tackled the three practical challenges with passion and determination.

The competition began with an earth science challenge titled “The Mystery of Ocean Wave Speeds,” followed by a chemistry challenge titled “Ion Exchange Express.”

The third practical competition, an interdisciplinary challenge, was titled “Go for It! Electromagnetic Cup-In.” Using electromagnetic induction, teams competed to land as many aluminum rings as possible in a distant cup after launching them from a TR (Thomson ring) apparatus. Each team adjusted the apparatus it had built in advance at the venue and searched for the optimal launch conditions.

 Okayama Prefectural Okayama Asahi High School placed first in this contest and secured the overall championship. The SKY Perfect JSAT Award was presented to Todaiji Gakuen High School, representing Nara Prefecture, for placing first in the written competition.

Showcasing the Appeal of Space, Science, and Technology Through Corporate Exhibits

Following the awards ceremony, Collaborative Partner Companies and organizations hosted exhibition booths offering a variety of programs designed to deepen interest in science and technology, including experimental demonstrations, displays and hands-on experiences with the latest equipment, and mini-lectures.

The Company also hosted a booth as a Collaborative Partner Company, providing presentations on how satellites work, examples of their applications, and the Space Business. At the venue, Company representatives also interacted with participants interested in Space and satellites and answered their questions.

Through its continued sponsorship of Science Koshien and Science Koshien Junior the Company will continue supporting the development of future scientific talent. As a company engaged in the Space Business, it will also continue pursuing initiatives that foster interest in Space, science, and technology.
