SKY Perfect JSAT Corporation (hereinafter referred to as the “Company”) held a “DE&I Workshop on Cross-Cultural Understanding” on June 2, 2026.

Through dialogue among employees, the workshop aimed to deepen understanding of diverse values, explore how to collaborate with people from different cultures and backgrounds, and broaden career possibilities by embracing differences in a positive way.

Program Overview

1. Presentation on cross-cultural understanding

2. Introduction to the Jakarta Representative Office

3. Employee presentations on experiences involving diverse cultures and backgrounds

4. World Café-style dialogue sessions

Learning to Deepen Cross-Cultural Understanding

The workshop began with an introduction to key perspectives on cross-cultural understanding, using the Company’s “DE&I Guidebook.” The head of the Jakarta Representative Office then provided an overview of the Jakarta office and discussed local culture and working styles. Drawing on specific examples, the presentation also shared basic approaches and practical strategies for collaborating with colleagues from diverse religious and cultural backgrounds.

Employees Sharing Experiences Involving Diverse Cultures and Backgrounds

An employee who had been seconded to a U.S. subsidiary discussed the cultural and linguistic differences encountered while working overseas. Drawing on personal experience, the employee shared lessons learned, including that in a different cultural environment, a willingness to make oneself understood is more important than perfect language proficiency, and that actively expressing one’s views can help foster more dynamic communication. The employee also explained how living and working overseas had contributed significantly to their career development.

Dialogue with Employees from Diverse Cultural Backgrounds

Employees with international backgrounds discussed the cultural characteristics and differences in communication styles they had experienced while working in Japan. While touching on communication practices in different countries and regions, they emphasized the importance of people from diverse cultural backgrounds deepening mutual understanding. Participants also exchanged views on effective workplace communication and appropriate forms of support, creating an opportunity to consider how to build an environment in which diverse talent can thrive.

Putting Cross-Cultural Communication into Practice

Employees who regularly collaborate with colleagues from different cultural backgrounds shared practical communication techniques and examples from their own work. Practical lessons included the importance of deepening mutual understanding through proactive dialogue and consultation, as well as how everyday communication, including interactions outside of work, can help build relationships of trust.

Insights Gained Through Dialogue

In the latter half of the workshop, participants divided into groups and engaged in World Café-style dialogue sessions.

One response to the post-workshop survey indicated that the respondent had gained a deeper understanding of differences in values and behavior across cultures. Participants also shared comments such as:

• “It gave me an opportunity to reconsider my own values and assumptions.”

• “I came to understand that differences in values arise not only from culture, but also from the environment in which people were raised and their experiences.”

• “I realized that cultural differences exist not only overseas, but also within organizations and workplaces close to home.”

• “My interest in working overseas and cross-cultural communication has grown.”

Advancing DE&I

The workshop provided an opportunity to deepen understanding not only of cultural differences, but also of diverse values and ways of working.
