SKY Perfect JSAT Corporation (Head Office: Tokyo; Representative Director, President & Chief Executive Officer: Eiichi Yonekura; hereinafter “SKY Perfect JSAT”), together with Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (Head Office: Tokyo; President & CEO: Kei Uruma; hereinafter “Mitsubishi Electric”), Mitsui & Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Tokyo; President & Chief Executive Officer: Kenichi Hori; hereinafter “Mitsui”), Synspective Inc. (Head Office: Tokyo; CEO: Motoyuki Arai), Institute for Q-shu Pioneers of Space, Inc. (Head Office: Fukuoka; President and Representative Director CEO: Shunsuke Onishi), Axelspace Corporation (Head Office: Tokyo; President & CEO: Yuya Nakamura), and Mitsui Bussan Aerospace Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Tokyo; President & CEO: Morihiro Aoki) were awarded the Ministry of Defense (MOD)’s public tender for “Satellite constellation project” on December 24, 2025.

  This project is a Private Finance Initiative (PFI) aimed at establishing a satellite constellation*1 operated by private companies to ensure the stable acquisition of imagery essential for maintaining the effectiveness of stand-off defense capabilities*2. Existing commercial satellite imagery services may not consistently deliver images when required by MOD. Through this project, SKY Perfect JSAT and its partners will work to ensure stable and timely image acquisition by building and operating a dedicated satellite constellation, which will provide MOD priority imaging rights. SKY Perfect JSAT, in partnership with Mitsubishi Electric and Mitsui, plans to conclude a basic agreement with MOD regarding this project in January 2026. Following that, the three companies will establish a special-purpose company as required of the successful contractor, and in February, this entity is scheduled to execute a project contract with MOD.

  Looking ahead, SKY Perfect JSAT will continue to fully leverage the experience, technologies, and assets cultivated over four decades in the space business since its founding in 1985, contributing to strengthening Japan’s national security and reinforcing its defense industrial foundation.
