SKY Perfect JSAT Corporation (Headquartered: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director, President & Chief Executive Officer: Eiichi Yonekura; "SKY Perfect JSAT") has been honored with the Selection Committee Special Award at the 7th Space Development and Utilization Awards, hosted by the Cabinet Office of Japan. The awards honor initiatives that have delivered outstanding results and played a leading role in promoting the advancing space and utilization in Japan. SKY Perfect JSAT’s initiatives were selected as a representative example in recognition of the company’s pioneering efforts and its continued commitment to addressing new challenges in this field.

This recognition highlights SKY Perfect JSAT’s pioneering achievements toward realizing 5G NTN1 (Non-Terrestrial Networks), which integrate terrestrial and satellite communications, including the world’s first*2 cross-border demonstration of 5G connectivitiy via satellite.

In May 2025, SKY Perfect JSAT, as part of an international joint research team formed with four partner institutions including Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), successfully demonstrated—also for the first time in the world—5G NTN communication technologies in areas not reachable by terrestrial networks. Furthermore, on May 23, the team presented the first public live demonstration of cross-border, end-to-end*3 5G NTN communications at the Singapore Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan.

This series of initiatives was recognized for its originality and pioneering spirit, as it envisions the future of space-enabled social infrastructure and makes significant advances in technical validation toward building resilient communications platforms—ultimately leading to this award.

The results of this international joint research and demonstration substantially expand the potential of next-generation communications infrastructure centered on satellite communications. SKY Perfect JSAT will continue to strengthen collaboration with governmental agencies and partners worldwide, while further enhancing the social value of technologies that seamlessly connect space and terrestrial networks.

In addition, through the realization of “Universal NTN™,” SKY Perfect JSAT is committed to advancing the development of a new communications infrastructure that enables seamless connectivity between mobile networks and satellite networks.
