SKY Perfect JSAT Awarded the Contract to Build
C-band Spectrum Monitoring Facility for
Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications

   SKY Perfect JSAT Corporation (Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director, President & Chief Executive Officer: Eiichi Yonekura; “SKY Perfect JSAT”) announced today that it was awarded a contract to build a state-of-the-art C-band*1 Geostationary Orbit Satellite Spectrum Monitoring Facility for the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (“MIC”). The system will be implemented at SKY Perfect JSAT’s network control center “Space Port East” to start operation from April 1st, 2024. SKY Perfect JSAT is providing this solution as part of a joint project with Kratos Defense & Security Solutions, Inc. (“Kratos”), a leading provider of National Security and Frequency Regulator Solutions based in the United States including its subsidiary company, Kratos Communications Japan, Inc.

   Currently, MIC’s spectrum monitoring facility is located at Kanto Bureau of Telecommunications Mimura Radio Monitoring Center (Miura-City of Kanagawa Prefecture), but due to interferences caused by 5th Generation Mobile Communication System (5G), it will become difficult to continue its monitoring operation with the existing C-band spectrum monitoring system. Our solution will address MIC’s need to renew its C-band spectrum monitoring system at a new location protected from 5G interferences and enhance its monitoring capability that will help in assuring the spectrum’s safe usage, as well as, reducing the potential for signal congestion, RF interference and illegal usage.

   SKY Perfect JSAT is the prime contractor who is coordinating with the MIC to implement the project and to host the C-band antennas. SKY Perfect JSAT, will continue to work closely with Kratos so that we can complete the construction of the C-band spectrum monitoring facility and support its stable operation using this system.

　The Miura Radio Monitoring Center has maintained public order of domestic and international radio usage for over half a century to ensure the safety and security of Japanese people, working together under international cooperation with foreign authorities and ITU*2 that monitor space radio waves. As a leading satellite operator in Japan and Asia, SKY Perfect JSAT will continue to support Japan’s spectrum monitoring duty through this service.
